Going well, jonny, hope you enjoyed that birthday!  Things seem to slow up a bit here when I go on the road on weekends...I was up in Seattle for the Giants/M's game at Safeco on Saturday.

A very good Sandler impersonation of a rock singer right here, jonny:

Birthday was good.  I had to work late, but managed to get home in time to have dinner with the family.

Safeco looks like a great place to see a game.  Hope you enjoyed it.

The Bitterest Pill (I've Ever Had To Swallow)- The Jam

One of my all-time favorite songs.  It's from The Jam's latter period, where the punk/pop was replaced by a more soulful sound and this is a classic example.  Great vocals from Paul Weller.

Here's a bit from allmusic.com about the song:

Ostensibly a love lost song, so emotive are Weller's vocals that those unaware of his happy home life would have assumed that his heart had recently been torn asunder. In reality, he'd let bleed all the pain, grief, anger, and frustration he felt towards The Jam into the number. Peter Wilson's majestically muscled production gives the song a stupendous grandiosity, never permitting the lush strings to turn the sound mawkish, resulting in an emotionally charged number that glories in its heartache.

I really like Sandler, but his last few films have been attrocious.  He is very talented and, like Bill Murray is a very good dramatic actor as well.  Punchdrunk Love, Spanglish, and especially Funny People showcased this.  However, Bill Murray is on a different level.  Sure, he presided over some stinkers in his day, but he has matured quite a bit as an actor.  His work with Wes Anderson has been stellar and his performance in Lost In Translation was outstanding.

It is a great place to catch a game,  as good as the Kingdome was bad.  Lot's of very happy young people at the game on Sat. night, about a thousand of them out in an area called "The PEN", beyond CF.  No tables or chairs out there, limited view of the game, really.  These kids were partying their collective asses off, dj playing rock music loud, everyone pounding beers.  Even though they all bought tix to get into the Park, I'm pretty sure noone out there really cared much about the game, lol, and to be honest, if I was younger I'd have been out there, too!

I view Sandler much the way I view Jim Carrey-both VERY talented guys that are capable of way more than the star vehicle crap that makes up 90% of their resume'. Sandler makes the same dumb comedy over and overm, which would be fine if he didn't do things like Punch-Drunk Love. What a waste.

"White Summer/Black Mountain Side" - Led Zeppelin

"Without You" - Eddie Vedder
One of my favorites from the Ukelele Songs record.

"Sweet Thing" - Van Morrison

"I've Seen The Saucers" - Elton John

As dumb as this title is, it;s actually a great obscure tune from the Caribou album.
