If this week's polls are any indication of the kind of season on tap in college football, the BCS is about to get embarrassed. Badly.
The Big East, a member of the BCS, has one ranked team ... No. 23 Cincinnati.
The Mountain West, a non-member of the BCS, has three ranked teams: No. 9 BYU, No. 16 TCU and No. 17 Utah.
Yet the winner of the Big East is guaranteed a spot in the BCS bowls, while the winner of the Mountain West is not. That's a problem, if this week's polls are any indication of the kind of season that takes place.
And the ACC isn't very good either. By the way.
I still don't like Boise State, even undefeated in December, as a national title contender. Not when its best win all season could end up being against an Oregon team that is now unranked.

Boise State is unworthy, and this is why
If Boise State beats Oregon State tonight, the Broncos are a safe bet to finish the regular season undefeated, and therefore in position to create another BCS controversy.
Which is absolute dung.
In the college football that I know and love, there are no "safe bets" to run the season and finish it undefeated if you win your first game. That's nonsense, but that's the reality for Boise State. Which means Boise State is nonsense.
Boise State as a national title contender, I mean.
Pick a school from a BCS conference. Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, USC, Ohio State, (OK, don't pick one from the Big East. That league sucks.) If any of those teams wins their first game, are they a safe bet to run the table? Of course not.
Boise State is, but only because Boise State's schedule includes Miami (Ohio) and Nevada and something called UC Davis. Georgia plays Florida. Oklahoma plays Texas. USC plays Ohio State. And there are plenty more tough games where those came from.
Boise State is a nice story, and probably a pretty good football team. But Boise State as a national title contender? Come on. You don't really believe it, right?
