Pretend for a minute that you are Reggie Bush. No, you're not spending that minute with her. Or her. Or them. You're spending that minute in contemplation of the 2005 Heisman Trophy, and you're asking yourself a question:

The Heisman Trust wants me to return it. So do I give it back?

Hey, your call. Me, if I'm Reggie Bush? I'm keeping the SOB, and here's why:

I won it fair and square.

Yes, I did.

I didn't take steroids. Didn't steals signs from the opposing sideline. Didn't do anything but take the football and steal down the sideline for long, explosive runs into the end zone.

Now then, you can say I never should have been on the field in the first place, that my dealings with marketers while in college made me a professional and therefore made me ineligible. That's all true, but that's after the fact. And the fact is, when I was eligible, I was the best player in college football.

It's the NCAA's way, and now the BCS' way and the Heisman Trust's way, to vacate games and honors, as if they never happened. Southern Cal's 2004 BCS national championship? Never happened.

My Heisman Trophy in 2005? That happened. I was on that field. I saw it. I felt it. I won it.

And now I'm supposed to give the trophy back? Nah. The school gave back its copy. The official Heisman website says there was no winner from 2005. The public knows the Bush family had its hand out. We've suffered, all of us. I've suffered personally, and my reputation is in tatters. Returning the trophy won't give me back my reputation, and I'm not buying the idea that keeping the trophy can only make it worse. Not sure that's possible.

So I'm keeping the damn trophy. You want it? Go win one of your own. On the field. Just like I did.

Reggie Bush's Heisman: Return it? Or not?

Definitely he should keep the trophy. The Heisman trust should go jump in a lake.

I agree. Reggie should keep the trophy. Accepting money is not performance enhancement (contrary to what a gold digger would tell you about your performance if you are wealthy). The Heisman trophy is a popularity contest for certain positions on high profile teams and seeing as he garnered the most votes Reggie Bush was evidently the most popular player on an Heisman acceptable team with sufficient stats to justify giving him the trophy at the time. Therefore he earned it.
Reggie Bush should mail a used condom to the Heisman trust with a note attached saying "Dear Heisman trust, I am sorry to inform you that I like the trophy that you gave to me so I do not want to return it. However, in order to express my gratitude for the trophy you gave me I am giving you something back to you. I have enclosed a gift for you, I used this condom with Ms. Kardashian so therefore I now offer it to you, the Heisman trust, so that you can use it to f**k yourselves. Love, Reggie Kiss"

Reggie Bush's Heisman: Return it? Or not?

Reggie Bush should auction his trophy on Ebay or some other place. Word is he would get at least $2 million for it because that's how much I would pay. But it seems that it would probably fetch about $750,000 due to the NCAA's ominous warning about accepting stolen/ill-gotten goods.

Reggie Bush's Heisman: Return it? Or not?

He should return it if USC and the NCAA return all the money they made off of him!

Reggie Bush may have been on the take . . .

. . . but so was Cam Newton and a ton of Ohio State players--and no one is making Cam give his trophy back.  I agree with WelchCougar--keep it Reggie.  You're no more corrupt than the NCAA.

I have two things to say...

1. Keep the trophy because I enjoyed watching you win it.
2. Is Cam Newton going to give his back?

"That's all true, but that's after the fact. And the fact is, when I was eligible, I was the best player in college football."

Reggie Bush may have been eligible when he was a freshman, but he was not the best player in college football then.  When he was named the best player in football, he was not eligible, but the people voting did not know that.  Bottom line, even if he was eligible, he was not the best player in college football the year he was voted the Heisman winner.  Vince Young deserved the award, and I am no fan of his or Texas.  But, even PC knew Bush was not the best player in college football because when the NC game was on the line, Bush was not even on the field, he was replaced by White.  If Bush wants people to think of him as a scumbag, then he should keep the trophy and make the Trust sue him for it.  If he wants to try and repair his reputation, he will return it.  Easy enough.
