First, Mike Hamilton. Next, Gene Smith.

For Ohio State, the roadmap to redemption continues to unfold in Tennessee. And I assure you, the people at Ohio State are paying attention.

Because Tennessee and Ohio State are connected forever, connected by the cons of Bruce Pearl and Jim Tressel, joined at the same broken hip that must be replaced.

Tennessee is getting there. Ohio State is next. That's how this thing has been, every step of the way.

First Tennessee basketball coach Bruce Pearl breaks one of the biggest rules possible. He lies to the NCAA about a violation (his own, in this case). Then Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel commits a similar violation, covering up a violation (albeit not his own) within the OSU football program.

Despite the outcry, Tennessee thinks a long suspension is enough -- and keeps Pearl. Despite the outcry, Ohio State thinks a long suspension is enough -- and keeps Tressel.

Tennessee finally wises up, pushes Pearl out. Ohio State finally wises up, pushes Tressel out.

Despite the outcry, Tennessee keeps athletics director Mike Hamilton. Despite the outcry, Ohio State keeps athletics director Gene Smith.

On Tuesday, Tennessee finally wised up and pushed Hamilton out.

Your move, Ohio State, but we already know how this story ends. Eventually you'll figure it out too. You always do.

With Tennessee's help.

Sometimes even a blind squirrel can find a nut.  No seriously, I agreed wholeheatedly then and the 'resignation' of Hamilton may not have happened if he'd hit a home run with his Football hirings.

Here are Doyel's comments from BEFORE UT made hired Lane Kiffin:

"The temptation is to keep my mouth shut. The temptation is to let this happen without a single word of warning, and then when it does happen, to open my mouth. But only after the fact. And then, only to laugh.

To laugh at you, Clemson.

Or at you, Tennessee.

..............................

Let the Vols, who are idiots anyway for , cut loose Fulmer and hire Kiffin.

And then in three years, I'll laugh. Because it will be funny when Kiffin runs a program so far into the ground, its new school color will be magma."

Ohio State needs to get rid of Gene Smith and Gordon Gee. And if the NCAA is serious about getting tougher on renegade athletics programs, it will give OSU the dreaded "Death Penalty".

The coach who got you the first national championship since 1951 is better than most.  The grass is always greener on the other side.   Look at the program since Fulmer left.  And it may get worse if sanctions are bad as most predict.

Ohio State Fans- stop crying about the comments/articles/reports etc.  If they would have confessed everything on the front end when it happened,  it at most would have been some minor scholarship reductions.  When you break the rules, there are consequences.  Part of which are the uncomfortble articles from bloggers/writers.

Vol Fans- I confess I don't care if you ever win a game in football, root against you in most cases.  But it is not fair when coaches break the rules, move on and the school pays the price.  Ban Kiffin, Pearl, assistants involved from coaching.  That would be fair.
And stop defending Bruce Pearl because he won games.  That is such an ignorant rationalization.  That is like saying Hannibal L. was a decent guy when he wasn't eating people.

I thought this news was about Tennessee, not Ohio State.  Did I miss something?  Or was it Doyel?

Simon_Says: UT shouldve never fired Bruce, UT bball will never get back to a Top 25 team.  Ernie would be very interestng...i like it. Plus he'll be looking for a job soon enough.

The person who needs to be fired is Doyle... not sure who is worse, Doyle or Rep. Weiner

Well, the wheels of justice turn slow, but at least they are appearing to turn.  Smith and Gee both need to go. Their complicity in this mess makes it seem impossible that they would not meet the same end, since they seemed to serve at the will of Tressel.
