Mizzou hires Frank Haith; Miami revels

Posted on: April 4, 2011 12:24 am

HOUSTON -- In the most bizarre hire of this offseason, Missouri reportedly has hired Miami's Frank Haith -- a move that makes no sense, on any level, to anyone outside of Missouri AD Mike Alden's office.

The hire was confirmed by CBSSports.com's Gary Parrish. I'm writing it because he's busy, and I'm not. Who cares who writes it? Point is, Missouri panicked after being turned down by Matt Painter and went for a guy who wouldn't turn the school down.

Frank Haith had that going for him.

But not much else.

In seven years at Miami -- in a down era for the ACC -- Haith was 43-69 in league play and 129-101 overall. He went to one NCAA tournament, in 2008, and has gone 60-41 since. Known as a great recruiter under Rick Barnes at Texas, Haith hasn't shown that skill at Miami. Making you wonder if maybe the great recruiter at Texas was, you know, Rick Barnes.

Whatever the case, Miami fans were rejoicing on the Internet Sunday night to be done with Haith, and preparing for the Hurricanes' inevitable pursuit of Kansas State's Frank Martin -- who got his start in coaching in the Miami high school system and who is a force on the South Florida recruiting circuit to this day.

With Jacob Pullen graduating at Kansas State, the time could be right for Martin to go home. We'll see.

Feel what you want about Gary. No one cares. You're basically a blogger who has no wit like real writers, so you half-wittedly spew venom. Very creative and such a differentiator.

So, do you believe Gary had that much power? Do you think Shaka, Barnes, or whomever based a decision on a conversation that everyone else has when they know someone who worked with a future employer? Yow, in over her head as a female AD, completely unraveled and imploded in embarrassing herself, Gottfried, Smart, and Williams all at once. That's quite a talent. Between that A+ football program and Gottfried, things are looking up at State.

Vindictive zero, third rate blogger! Congrats!

Greg Doyel is the biggest coward I have ever heard. He is an internet tommy tough nuts who is so alone, pathetic and insignificant in life that he feels the need to try and draw attention to himself so that other people will notice him. I for one feel so sorry for this pathetic man because he will spend the rest of his life alone and doing anything he can to get some sort of attention. I see him as sort of a pathetic dog who was abandoned early in life. At least he got his attention though. Too bad the attention continues to be people consistently mocking, riduling, and basically laughing at the useless, pathetic, and complete unimportance of this "man's" life.
Gary Williams, the Hall of Fame coach, has no need to respond to this jerk. He will continue to coach for as long as he feels he can, and he has earned to right to do that, as well as ignore uneducated, pathetic idiots like Greg Doyey. The majority of people who are educated in college basketball will obviously side with Gary Williams, especially on this insignificant piece of "journalistic" crap writer.

PS - Greg, get rid of the hammer. You look like an idiot with that thing. Kinda reminds me of the dweeb kid who's about to get his head handed to him and grabs the 1st thing he can find. Trouble is, this kid throws like a girl and swings that way too. With his eyes closed. And a grimace on his face that is a mix of mighty effort (or at least the best a dweeb can muster) and fear and surprise. If you don't know that look, it 'cause that was you. You really are pathetic. BTW, do you refer to yourself as a "journalist"?

Greg, you itty bitty, teensy weenie little man. Why does Gary Williams need to call you back? Cause you said so? Why don't you write an article to back up what you said about him on the radio. But name names and show proof that Gary "sabotaged" the NCST search. Don't think you will cause you have no facts. You just flame and hurl accusations. You couldn't tie Gary's shoes but you call him a coward. Nice. Do it to his face. Or at least come on Baltimore / Washington radio and make these same statements. By the way, is Gary the only coach who screams at his players? Are you kidding? Did you ever even play organized sports?

Calling Gary Williams a coward when you hide your email address as a blogger?  Can't take the heat, can you Doyel?  You are a hack.

Your writing about Mizzou but you flexed your radio muscles with going after Gary.... you r a retard and I am not even a MD fan (I live in MD)  Debbie Yow destroyed MD Athletics.... She put the plans in place for running out Fridge in Football and She ALWAYS handcuffed the basketball program.   I can see she continued her great run at NC State to keep the tradition of losing!!!!!    You are a Dot Com blogger....  I dont think Gary owes you a return call plus I think Gary made it clear with a universal statement on this subject but  you have to go out and try to make a bigger name of yourself by "calling him out"..... I knwo damn well that if you were in the same room as Gary, you would not talk like that..... I am surprised you have a job but hey,  your a dotcom blogger....  starvin for attention!!!!!   LOOOOOOOSSSSSEEERRR!

And now having heard your interview, you managed to out-do Debbie Yow in stupiditity. Basically, the woman you said was brilliant and had a better job to offer than Missouri makes a worse hire than Missouri, bad-mouths her new coach in the process and makes herself look stupid. You then top it with a ridiculous defense of her. Not a very good day to be you, Doyel.

I think the Missouri fans are being babies, and couldn't think of a worse way to start your new coach's tenure at your school than what you are doing.  In the end, I think the fans will be eating their words because Haith is a quality, stand up guy and will do just fine at Missouri.
(1) I don't think we're being babies. If you wanna argue we're being irrationally reactionary, I wouldn't disagree. But very few of us even knew Haith was on the horizon. It was a move no one expected, and it was a letdown. Maube a little transparency from Alden would have helped...

(2) If you're right about Haith, most of us will gladly eat our words and admit we were wrong. Best case scenario is we're all wrong.
