Morris twins unsure about NBA

SAN ANTONIO -- The Southwest Region final was a strange game for the Morris twins, although it ended with their being absolved of being buttholes.

Hey, that's not my word. That comes from VCU senior Jamie Skeen, who uttered one of the more improbable quotes I've ever heard when he was asked after the game -- he had 26 points and 10 rebounds -- about Marcus and Markieff Morris.

"I'd like to start off by saying that both of those guys are really good," Skeen said. "They're NBA talent, as everybody already knows. I respect both of them. I came in the game thinking that they were not so cool on the court and I thought they were some buttholes on the court -- that's what everybody told me, at least -- but when I got on the court I found out they were really cool."

Glad that's cleared up. As for the Morris' future, that remains murky. Markieff was asked afterward if he and his brother would enter the 2011 NBA draft as juniors, and he didn't say no.

"I have to sit down and talk to my coaches and family about my future and my brother's future," Markieff said. "Whatever happens, it will be the best decision."

Sunday was a mixed bag for both brothers. They showed they can produce, combining for 33 points and 28 rebounds, but the VCU frontcourt is small. Skeen is the biggest regular, and he's not as big as his listed 6-foot-9. The most shocking statistic was the number eight: Marcus had that many offensive rebounds, and Markieff had that many turnovers.

Other than Tyshawn Taylor (14 points on nine shots, plus three assists), the twins were Kansas' most effective players by far. Starting guards Brady Morningstar and Tyrel Reed were a combined 2 of 16 from the floor, and 1 of 10 on 3-pointers. Thomas Robinson, the sixth man who had a brutish double-double in the Sweet 16 against Richmond, was scoreless in six foul-plagued minutes.

"Sometimes in sports the harder you try the worse you play," Self said. "Our guys tried hard. This is one of those games where I think they tried really hard and obviously care so much and it may have taken away from our performance because, you know, the [shots] didn't go in -- and the harder they tried to go get the rebound and put it up, it just didn't go in again."

Morris twins unsure about NBA

I always like how a guy says he can't stand fans, so he lumps them in one group.  I mean, seriously.....where do you get to stand on a pedestal and point fingers?  Every team has fans that can't keep their mouth shut.  It's not just one university....it's human nature.  Typically what I find is when someone has a fascination like this, it typically stems from some sort of jealousy that is lacking on that persons part.  EVERY team has fans, and EVERY team has fans that jabber on and on and on.  Go read any teams group pages and you will see it.  And every team has great fans too.  There's teams out there that I don't care for, but what's the point?  Does it make others feel bad about their teams?  No.  Does it make you feel high and mighty?  Probably.  It's the internet and it's easy to write something hiding behind a computer.  You understand that you wrote double standards all over that post.  I don't despise Kansas fans, but I really do.  It's truly laughable.  I'm sure I will get attacked as the most dispicable person this side of whoever you choose to name.....but I really found your post humorous.  Good luck with whoever your team is, and I'm sure you will see someone just like you telling you how they can't stand your team.....which again goes to human nature....not just one University.

I encouraged the Morris twins to take the talent to the NBA, not because I despise Kansas fans so much (which I do), but they should use what God gave them to make a ton of money. They did their job on that game vs. VCU, crashing the board and getting rebounds. But their guards and the free throws cost them the game. GOOD THING! Kansas fans can't keep their mouth shut, so glad that they are out.

Billy sure gets his boys ready to pound er, play against our Tigers.  And I can firmly attest to the inside presence and domination Billy's  boys showed us again this year.  Hell we couldn't defend their guards either and VCU could which makes it difficult to get good entry passes or easy dribble drives and dishes.  Ku did not look like the same Ku I have seen (every Monday) under Billy.  No quick ball movement or reversals or drives and kickout 3's.  No pushing the ball after rebounds and made buckets via long and hard outlets creating mismatches for easy inside buckets.

And for the record I think the Morris twins are the best NBA prospects in the draft should go 1, 2 and Selby and Thomas Robinson will go 3 and 4.  Hopefully, depleting their roster.

twocoach, thank you for that reply. As I was reading that original post, I thought, "Has this clown even watched a KU game?"  If anything, VCU was the jumpshooting team in that game yesterday.....and a pretty damned good one.

Bottom line is KU didn't hit their shots. If they go 40-50% from 3-point land, that game would have gotten interesting.  VCU would have had to change their defense to adjust, and that would have opened up the inside game.

And no, I'm not defending KU, but these idiots that call out good coaches drive me nuts. VCU is just on a roll.  It's fun as hell to watch.

Bill Self knows how to win!  He's done it his entire career.  He puts every one of his players in a postion to succeed on and off the court.  KU had plenty of opportunities to win that game.  Coach Self didn't go 1 for 10 from the 3 point line or shoot 35% from the floor.  The only other thing Bill Self should've done is get on refs earlier for some questionable calls.  (Another conversation).

A rarity when a KU fan agrees with a MIZZOU fan but this comment is on point.

All these comments about Bill Self not being the greatest coach is ridiculous. You lose two games all year, and make it to the elite eight and now all of sudden Bill Self can't get it done. Didnt he win the titale for you a few years ago. See this is exactly what I'm talking about when it comes to Kansas fans. I hate KU but just because your team doesnt make win the championship doesnt mean your coach cant get it done. KU has a great team every year, and there always in contension for the title. Give it a rest KU fans, I'm expecting you to hibernate till next bb season.

If they say they don't know, that means they're going...They just didn't want to announce it right after the game. About the game - anyone else having serious doubts about Bill Self? With the talent they get at Kansas, other than one year just barely, he doesn't seem to do enough with it.

"But the guy isnt a smart coach.  He always takes jump shooting teams into the tourney and when they cant shoot they lose. "

That has got to be the most retarded comment I have ever seen in my life. KU a jump sooting team?!? You have clearly not watched a SINGLE Kansas game all year. KU's typical game plan is to POUND the post and kick out for a jump shot if needed.
