Typical baseball fight: Everybody lost

Baseball players can't fight. Nor can they talk. And when they fight and then talk?

Pathetic.

That's what Tuesday at Great American Catfight Park was: pathetic.

Brandon Phillips was pathetic for thinking he could tap Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina on the shinguards with his bat, one day after calling the Cardinals -- including Molina, presumably -- "bitches."

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa was pathetic for running out there in his baseball uniform, looking for all the world like my grandpa in pajamas, and talking tough.

Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto was pathetic for slashing out with his spikes -- literally turning his feet into a pair of churning knives -- as he was pushed up into the netting behind home plate.

And Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter was pathetic for saying afterward of Cueto's kicking, "It's unprofessional."

And what part of a baseball brawl is professional, Chris? See my point there? Idiot.

Baseball players can't fight. Period. And they shouldn't talk. Ever. Just play your 162 games, inject your steroids and shut the hell up.

Are you serious when you write things like this Doyel? I know it's your supposed job to write, but isn't there better information out there to get out than saying that baseball players are figurative "bitches"? That's what you are saying, aren't you? They ball players might as well as being wearing skirts and heels? I agree that brawls in baseball are kind of ridiculous, but it happens. It's always happened. Let it go, get over it. I don't know how everyone lost, no one was going to back down. Are you going to back down after someone immaturely calls you negative names? If you do, you should put on a skirt.

Carp is a man, he'll go toe to toe with anyone, anytime

Next to La Russa, Carpenter is the biggest b*tch of them all.  He cries about his own players, he cries about other players, he cries about the baseballs and who the hell knows what else he might cry about.

Gregg Doyel can't write.

Can't believe CBS would put this waste of space "article" on their site.  I've read better insight written on napkins in a bar.

Thanks for the opinion, Gregg.  It means as much as Pauly Shore's opinion on fixing the economy.

NBA = Only Real Sport

OK Greg. Now we hear that MLB baseball players can't fight. We should have known. The only real uber-alpha males are NBA players. The NBA is the true measurement of not only athletic ability, but the true measurement of manhood. Yes, if it ain't NBA, then it isn't sport. Isn't that about it Greg? Is that the storyline you're suggesting here? Yes, those "tough guy" NBA players are the masters of pugilism. A skinny guy that's 6'8" and weighs about a buck eighty-five, with skinny legs that resemble a flamingo, is what strikes fear in the hearts of all of us. Has anybody seen an NBA fight? It takes four guys. One to act like he's tough, and three to "hold him back".  Yep, the NBA is the ultimate yardstick for manhood. Sorry Greg, but if I'm looking for tough guys who can scrap, I'll take the NHL over the NBA, and every sport out there, including the NFL. And yes, I'll take baseball players anytime against NBA players. Wouldn't it have been nice to see Jordan go mano a mano while the referees and everyone else just watched? Anyone notice that Doyel ripped LaRussa, but neglected to say anything about the instigating Dusty Baker? So typical.

Typical baseball fight: The lost story

Hey what is being lost here is the story behind the story. Brandon Phillpis hates the Cardinals more that he hates the Cubs! Alas the Cubs return to relevance. We all know tht Joey Votto really really hates the Cubs because he said so after he wouldnt shake Marlon Byrd's hand after he saved the NL from All-Star game hell and helping maybe even the Redlegs to home field advantage in the WS.

Sounds like the Reds are a bunch of haters. So who does Dusty hate more, the Cardinals or the Cubs? He hates the Cards from his days in Chicago because you just can't be a Cubbie and not hate the Cards. And He probably hates the Cubs, well, from his days in Chicago. (yes Dusty laugh aloud, these pathetic cubbies are doing to Pinella the same thing they did to you in your last year in town-quit)

So that seems to even it out with equal hate for the Cubs and Cards. But alas, the  tie-breaker, Breneman the Reds announcer really  hates the Cubs too.

I'd write about baseball but we haven't seen any on the North side this year. Aren't the players on strike or something? (ha ha) Anyone need tickets to the Cardinal series in September?

Brandon Phillips is a joke.  The guy runs his mouth and slams the Reds only competitor in the NL Central as well as quite a few of his current teammates, then proceeds to go what, 2 for 14 in the series?  Yadi did what anyone would expect him to do after those kind of comments and the guy that made them acts like nothing happened.  At least Yadi spoke with his bat and not his mouth.

Johnny Cueto thinks he can get a free pass because he was "scared" and from a third world country, but lets face it; using your metal spikes to kick people is criminal.  Sure he was pushed against the backstop...BY HIS OWN TEAMMATES.  Watch the video, the only one in direct contact with him is white jerseys, specifically Votto, who is now one of the only Reds players I can respect, and that is because he is a great player.  Jason Larue needed stiches and suffered a mild concussion, if Cueto gets off with anything less than a big fine and a suspension where he misses at least 2 starts, something is wrong with MLB.

So I would say the only pathetic people worth talking about in this situation would be Phillips and Cueto.

Doyel must get points for throwing out stupid comments to get DA's like myself to respond to.  Ever get mad in a game over something said or done to you Doyel?  Let me know when actually start writing a column
